Facebook Timeline Pictures

You may or may not have noticed that Timeline pages’ profile images are now displaying larger.  The uploading size for the profile images is still 180 x 180 pixels and Facebook resizes it to 160 x 160 pixels. Previously it was 125 x 125 pixels.

Many will not even notice this change.  However, those who have integrated their profile picture with their cover photo may notice that their profile image now will not match up or tie-in with their cover photo.

Facebook Timeline pictures

Facebook Timeline pictures offer a fantastic opportunity to market your business or brand – so make full use of all this marketing space offered to you.  You don’t have long to capture the attention of new visitors to your page so make sure you are noticed!

My Facebook Page checklist can be found on my Facebook page, Social Bizniz, and has the sizes in there as well as other great tips!

Get Happy!

Two simple words “Get Happy”.

I have a motivational section in my blog where I like to collect a few motivational videos so that I know where to find the very special ones! Today I stumbled across this video which is a real “Must Watch”!

Sometimes we can make life REALLY complicated for ourselves when really what we need to do is try to make peace with everything we do, be grateful and  see the best in everyone and everything.  Often easier said than done but wouldn’t life be so much better if we REALLY saw the good things rather than the bad?

A simple message and two simple words and yet they mean the world – hope you enjoy this!

Best time to post on Facebook

Best time to post on FacebookIf you have a Facebook business page – you may have asked yourself many-a-time the question: What is the best time to post on Facebook?

If you have been posting on your page at least twice a day for a few months you will would have noticed that there are definitely “dead times” and “alive times”.  Someone said it’s as though they were talking into a big black hole – how true this is when your page is quite new!

I have found the best time to post on Facebook is either early morning between 6.45am and 8.30am and evening times are definitely more active than during the day, especially around 8pm. Weekends can also be a good time!

I understand that over half of Facebook users access Facebook out of school and business hours.  So, if you are only posting during working hours and getting nowhere – try evenings and weekends – you could well notice a big improvement.

Of course, the best time to post on Facebook also depends where you are in the world but a good idea is to check your Facebook insights and see where the largest number of your fans are!

Posting too infrequently means you may be missing out on opportunities to reach your fans and posting too often may mean a higher percentage of “unlikes”.  I have found that 2-3 times a day is good.

It’s not only about the timing – focus on engagement and providing quality, varied content. Engage with fans who come to your page: respond to their comments as soon as you can, as well as liking their comments and taking a minute to go over to their page and return the favour!

Please do come and visit our Facebook page and say hi!  Hope you have found something helpful in this post – if you have any tips about when is the best time to post on Facebook – please leave a comment below – we would love to hear from you!

How to Remove a White Background from an Image in 5 Minutes!

Remove a white background

Introducing my very first guest bloggers – Davina and Caroline from Useful Graphic Design Tutorials.

I have often battled with removing a white background from images and making them transparent.  I can’t tell you how many time-consuming ways I have tried – make sure you watch the video at the end – you won’t believe how easy it is – over to them!

So there you are, you’ve finished your article for your Blog, you’re feeling pleased with yourself and all you need to do is to find a suitable image or two to enhance the post.

Ooh, this is the fun bit.

So you scurry off  to one of the many sites that have been recommended, where you can get images that are part of the Creative Commons project, and you select a relevant couple of images.

You’ve already decided where to put the images so that they enhance your text and you upload them to the site and stand back and admire your work. Ta da!

Drat, and double drat! The images have got a white background and your Blog has a beautiful sleek ebony finish to it, so the white background really stands out. Just what you don’t want!

It seemed like a really good idea when you were deciding how you wanted your Blog to look, but each time you use an image on it, you have to remove this dratted white background. So now you have to figure out how to remove it; either go and ask on a forum, ring up your friend (some hope there) or Google it.

Can anyone out there relate to this scenario? If so, fear not, because help is at hand.

Think ‘Fairy Godmothers’, think free graphics software, think a step by step video tutorial on how to remove the background. Add a couple of “shazamms” and the background has gone.

Well, not quite but if you do follow what Davina is showing you on the video in this post, then it really can be that simple.

Davina uses the free software Gimp to do this. She just goes through the steps you only need to take to do this, so you don’t have to learn ‘chapter and verse’ to be able to complete the task.

Davina also shows you a little known tip then ensures that all the white bits get zapped. This is invaluable stuff!

Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty.
Anyone who keeps learning stays young.

2 Reasons to Have a Google +1 Button

Master Google Plus GuideYou have seen them everywhere … the Google +1 buttons.  On websites, blog posts, in search results.

It is so simple to add a Google +1 button to your website.  This powerful button is a great way for your visitors to instantly share your content.

2 Reasons to have a Google +1 button

1.      Increases your search engine rank.  The more +1’s you receive the more visible your site becomes on Google.  You can place Google +1 buttons anywhere on your web pages and posts – before or after your content – or both if you like!

2.     Allows your visitors to share your content straight to the Google+ social network.  When a visitor clicks on the +1 button – they are given the option to “Share on Google+”.   This means that your blogpost is now visible in the Google+ network giving your content a chance to go viral and your brand to be seen.

Google+ has surged in popularity  and it’s only getting bigger.  If you would like to learn more about Google+ go take a look at the Master Google Plus Guide.

And here’s how to add the button to your site: How to add +1 buttons to your website – click here!

4 reasons to have a Facebook fan page

how to create a business page on FacebookI come across so many people who do not know about Facebook business pages.  For many people, Facebook is a place where young people exchange photographs, comments etc and spend hours and hours on computers checking their Facebook accounts! These are the personal profiles.

There is also a place on Facebook for business and Facebook business pages are a thriving community!  It is incredible to see what people are doing with their pages and how much business they are attracting.  Facebook is such a powerful platform and is a very different way of marketing – the new Word of Mouth marketing!

With over 800 million ACTIVE users – almost every demographic is now using Facebook meaning your niche is very likely to have a ready and waiting audience.

With a business page you can:

1.   Explode your visibility:  Fan Pages have no limit to the number of fans you have – the more fans you have – the more newsfeeds you appear in – the more the virality explodes!

2.   Showcase your business: Customised landing pages showcase your business – include your message, logos, branding.  This is also a great place to offer some value to your clients.

3.   Engage with people: Everyone who comes to your page is interested in your business.  Just like you talk about the weather and what’s happening in the world in an office environment/with your customers – this happens on your Facebook page.  The more interest you generate, the more they talk to you, the more interested they are in your business and the more likely they are to tell other people about you.

4.   Be found by search engines:  Many areas of your business page (info and about sections, custom tabs, page name, etc) are indexed by search engines which strengthens your internet and social media presence.
